Amfan Disaster Relief Project (I)

Amfan Disaster Relief Project (I)

On 14th June’2020, Sunday, we, the members of Hat Baralei Bondhu, set out for the Amphan affected Sundarbans with relief items.
Our scorpio drove in the heavy shower through the water-logged roads. Dry food, tarpauline, clothes and other goods for distribution were carried in a matador which followed our car.
After a long five hour journey on road, we crossed the Chinai river and then another one hour in local toto to reach
our destination.
Baliara village, Mousuni Island, a coastal village was completely devastated by the Amphan cyclone. The crop fields are still flooded, trees uprooted, huts, ponds and everything lies
ravaged.
We served a nice non vegetarian lunch to almost three hundred villagers. After lunch, the dry food and other required relief items were distributed which included cheera, muri, rice, dal, potato, onions, mustard oil, soyabean packets, biscuits, cakes, milk powder, snacks, sugar, gur, sanitary napkin packets, soaps, mask, saris, match box, candles and plastic tarpauline.
On our way back, the village children waved us good bye with a smile of joy and thankfulness, the smile which made our day, giving us immense pleasure.
We knew, we have to come to the Sundarbans again and again, at different areas to serve thousands of people who are in despair, whose crops,cattle,pisci-cultivation and every means of livelihood have been devoured by the Amphan.
We know, generous friends from all over the world, will be by our side, to strengthen our hands in this hour of stupendous crisis, so that together we may carry the message of love to those hapless people that we do care.
Tentative date of our upcoming Amphan Relief Project(2) at the Sundarbans : 12th July’2020
