Mathur’s Treatment Suffering from Hydrocephalus

Little Mathur is suffering from hydrocephalus, a very rare and severe health condition. We came across him in Bara Gora village in the Bagh Mundi Hills of Purulia in December’2023.
He was born with a huge head but his father had no means of consulting a doctor regarding this. Mathur’s father earns a paltry ₹1500 a month by planting trees.
With hope in our hearts we brought Mathur, who was then one year old, to Kolkata for treatment, but without any good result. It is then that we decided to take him to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore.

FINAL UPDATE:
We reached Bangalore and went to NIMHANS where Mathur was admitted and an MRI was done to check the feasibility of such an operation on Mathur. The report suggested that we could go forward with the operation.
NIMHANS had taken into consideration Mathur‘s father’s yearly income certificate and his BPL certificate and had brought down the cost significantly. We are ever grateful to NIMHANS for such a humane and benevolent gesture.
On 18th June’2024, Mathur was operated, the surgery of brain named “Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy”. According to Dr. Vikash, Neurosurgeon & Professor, NIMHANS, the operation was highly successful. After a short hospitalisation for post operative care,
Mathur was then brought back to Kolkata with his parents.
The treatment shall continue with check ups and periodically MRI may have to be done at intervals of 3 to 6 months.
It will be a prolonged treatment and ‘Hat Baralei Bondhu’ is and shall be beside the family for Mathur’s wellbeing.
